Aidan Morrison, Virgil Craig and Drea Samuels have been friends since childhood. With the war raging in Europe, the men decide to enlist. However, leaving the girl they have both grown to love is harder than they ever thought it would be. One of the men, being afraid that she will marry someone else while he is away, decides to propose. The other seduces her, taking her virginity to bind her to him. The men also share in a passionate relationship of their own that they have kept a secret from Drea for fear of how she would react.

While the men struggle to survive the brutalities of war, at home Drea faces a personal tragedy all alone. Little over a year passes before the men return home. They find themselves dealing with the issues that have developed between them. As secrets are revealed, misunderstandings cause hurt feelings and the love the three share is strained. Drea is confused by the fact that she loves and is attracted to both men. She feels pressured at her age to marry. Will the love and friendship they all have shared since childhood survive if she chooses one man over the other?

In this passionate and emotionally stirring historical romance, MODUS VIVENDI by Emery Sanborne, three strong and compelling characters find the friendship that they have shared since childhood changing as they mature into adults. There is now an attraction and desire shared between the three that conventional thinking and morality frowns upon. The tragedy of war adds stress and strain to what is already a difficult time in their lives. As they begin to think of their future, they fear the strain on their friendship may tear them apart.

From the very beginning it is obvious how the three characters feel for one another. There is both a strong friendship as well as an amazing amount of sexual attraction that binds them together. As the war intrudes upon their lives I felt that it gave them a chance to really think about how they felt about one another. I enjoyed reading while they struggled with what is expected of them and how their relationship must change to be accepted by others in their small town.

Aidan and Virgil both love Drea and want what is best for her, even if it means one of them must sacrifice his own happiness. Drea struggles with her feelings of love for both men and the idea of marriage. It appears that no matter what they do someone is going to be hurt and that pain may affect the relationship of the others. It is their concern for each other that makes the characters so likeable.

MODUS VIVENDI by Emery Sanborne is a very sexy and passionate romance involving two men and a woman that find their love and friendship threatened by society's expectations. The powerful emotions conveyed throughout the story drew me in and made me feel a part of the story. MODUS VIVENDI is a wonderful tale of love that is sure to appeal to many.
