Since the death of her
husband eight years ago Marietta James has lived a quiet, proper existence which
one would expect of a Victorian widow.Stormy
weather, a reckless nobleman and an injured animal will bring her in contact
with the very man she’s tried so very hard to avoid – because he threatens her
self control and reawakens desires she’s long denied.
Doctor Adam Hamilton considers
Marietta to be
snooty and if it wasn’t for the fact that the injured dog she’s carrying
belongs to one of his gravely ill patients he would have turned her away all together. He certainly never thought that the woman
would be so personable, caring, helpful – and all together one of the most
exciting females he’s ever met.
Propriety dictates that he
see to Monty’s care and send Marietta on her way but she stays and helps care
for Monty’s injuries – ignoring her own aches and pains suffered when she fell
moments before.Once Monty’s fixed up
though, Adam’s attention is turned toward
Marietta. She’s shivering and needs to get out of her
wet clothes – and he really needs to look at her injuries. There’s
a definite attraction between them which Adam tries to ignore but with the
storm building it looks like
Marietta
should remain with him rather than venture back out to head home.He promises that she’ll be safe with him –
but
Marietta
isn’t interested in playing it safe. She’s always considered herself plain brown wren and a sexy man is
showing interest in her and she’s not willing to let this opportunity
pass. After all, this is a memory that
will have to last her a lifetime. She
doesn’t trust nobility – and Adam definitely comes from a privileged background
so there’s no hope for a future with him… but what will happen when Adam
decides that he wants much more with
Marietta?
Cindy Spencer Pape’s MARRY
ME,
MARIETTA is
a charming step back to a time when neighbors cared for each other’s well
being.Marietta and Adam have a lot in common
including their dedication to the community. The attraction between them is subtle and very sweet while still containing
enough passion to satisfy the reader’s need for a little something extra in
their reading material.This story brought
a smile to my face and left me feeling good about life in general.
MARRY ME,
MARIETTA is one of several books being
released through Ellora’s Cave which are dedicated to Lara Anne Punches, a
young woman whose life was cut tragically short.A portion of the proceeds from the sale of
this book will be donated to her family.
