Paige has amnesia; she doesn’t remember her father made her cheat unsuspecting poker players out of their money.   On one particular night, Paige really doesn’t want to cheat the handsome cowboy that makes her heart beat faster, but her father is evil, he will make her pay; he has ways of dealing severely with those who thwart his plans.   Now she can’t remember what happened to her; she has been beaten and has no memory of what happened, or her identity.

Royce has been burned by women before, and he is not about to let this conniving cheat work her wiles on his family.   He plans to uncover her for the liar she is and get her away from Wooded Acres.   Despite his best laid plans, he finds himself falling in love with the lovely young woman.   She sees beneath the gruff exterior to the wounded man beneath. Now how can he protect her from the threat against her?

A lively tale, LUCK OF THE DRAW is a fast paced and engaging western romance by Julie Lence.   Royce is a typical unapproachable cowboy who is gruff on the outside but tortured beneath. His wariness is well portrayed, realistic and understandable to the reader.   Paige has suffered a very hard life and only wants to find a safe place to be cared for.   Her plight is an emotional one, bringing tears to this reader’s eyes a time or two.   Her grit and determination are admirable qualities.   Her intelligence is keen, her warmth and caring are genuine, and her determination to heal Royce’s soul is a passionate one.   Wild cowboys, saloon girls and the smoky atmosphere of a card game come to life on the pages with Julie Lence’s descriptive powers. With plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader turning pages, LUCK OF THE DRAW is an easy to recommend book and a treasure for the historical romance reader.
