Mariah Clark finally has a permanent home to call her own, but that may all be in jeopardy now that her father is missing and a certain gentleman is pressuring her to marry him. When she makes up the lie that she is married to turn away the man that is pressuring her, she thought that would be the end of her problems, but now she needs to produce her husband to silence the man’s doubts. Mariah was raised for a time by a gypsy grandmother and because of her Mariah has always believed in fate and magic, so when she is strolling on the beach one night and finds a man with no memory, she knows that he has been sent to her to play the part of her husband.

The man she calls Adam awakens to the sight of a beautiful woman claiming to be his wife. Adam doesn’t remember her name or face but he recognizes the emotions he feels when he is around her. Mariah has found the solution to one problem, but now she faces another. Adam is quickly healing and soon he will be demanding his marital rights. Mariah is torn because she knows she is falling in love with the loving and caring Adam, but before they can go any farther, she must tell him the truth.

Adam is now dealing with the knowledge that he loves Mariah, but now that he knows they aren’t really married and that she had never seen him before she found him on the beach, that leaves him without an identity. Adam wishes he knew more about his life before he was found or if he has a wife waiting for him somewhere, but he is tempted to forgo that knowledge so that he can stay with and love Mariah. Adam’s choice of staying is taken away when his friends finally find him, but the knowledge they bring may put him in the position of spending the rest of his life without the woman he has grown to love more than anything.

LOVING A LOST LORD by Mary Jo Putney is a wonderful introduction to her new series. Mariah was a strong woman and I loved that she was willing to do what was necessary to survive but that she wasn’t willing to continue the lie that she created even if it meant losing Adam. I loved Adam from the beginning and thought he was one of the most caring, honest and loyal heroes if I have seen. The passion and love between Mariah and Adam bounced off the pages when they were together and I loved seeing them work together to solve the problems they faced. I loved this book and highly recommend you rush out to buy it.
