LESSONS FROM A COURTESAN brings together a couple full of secrets. Victoria has a good heart and decides to become a courtesan to help her friend. However, before she can truly set her plan in motion, it is derailed by her husband. I can understand her anger and pain towards Justin but she never really thought about his side of the story. It isn’t until Justin reveals his secret that she truly understands the circumstances of his actions. Although Justin isn’t the model husband, I liked him. Maybe it’s the testosterone or his pursuit of his errant wife that grabbed me but there is something to be said about determination. I ached at his pain during the climactic revelation but then I realized how much he had changed in the book. He became more of a man by accepting his mistakes and by trying to rectify them as well. Victoria and Justin do not have a perfect marriage but I think the years apart actually helped them see each other in a new light. LESSONS FROM A COURTESAN has an interesting premise about two people who can discover love despite the obstacles in front of them.
