Kate Campbell has hated the MacGregors for most of her life after learning that the “Devil” MacGregor killed her most of her family. The only family she has now is her brother Robert and her Uncle Duncan who left them to be raised by the servants. Now that Kate is grown, her formerly absent uncle arrives to take her home. However, Kate doesn’t trust the perverse desire she sees in his eyes when he looks at her.

Callum MacGregor, aka The Devil MacGregor, is known for ruthlessly killing any Campbell that crosses his path. Incidentally, there is a reason for his deep, burning need for revenge. As children, he and his sister were chained in the dungeon of Duncan ’s father, which left his sister physically deformed and emotionally broken.

When Kate’s home is raided, she considers herself lucky when she is rescued by a mysterious Highlander. That is, until she discovers that her hero is actually The Devil MacGregor who takes her captive as bait to draw out her uncle. As they spend time together, Kate has trouble equating Callum with the man who killed her family, and he discovers that there may be one Campbell whom he does not want to kill. Will Callum finally come face to face with Duncan? Can he love a Campbell without betraying his people?

I enjoyed reading LAIRD OF THE MIST immensely. The Scottish brogue, realistic descriptions and brawny, untamed knights transports the reader to seventeenth century Scotland where one can almost smell the heather, leaving the reader wishing for a Highlander of her own. This is a witty, steamy, passionate medieval story. The hero’s vulnerability beneath his raw courage and strength, as well as the feisty heroine, makes this a story you will not want to miss!  I hated to see it end.  I highly recommend LAIRD OF THE MIST and look forward to reading more of this talented author’s works.
