Lucian Langdon, the Earl of Claybourne, is not accepted by the Ton.  Most of society does not believe he is the rightful heir, but no one dares to question his position.  Found close to death as a child, he was raised on the streets as one of Feagan’s kids.  Feagan taught Lucian and the other homeless kids all they needed to know to survive.  In prison at a young age for killing someone, Lucian took advantage of the opportunity when the father of the deceased mistook him for his long lost grandson.  Thus, he became the man’s heir and was released from prison.  Lucian, being unsure if he is really the legitimate heir, feels guilty for misleading the man who gave him love before he died. 

 

Catherine saw Lucian at a ball when she was younger and has been fascinated by him ever since.  She knows of Lucian’s reputation and feels that this is just the man she needs to rescue her friend.  Secretly, Catherine visits Luke at his home, in hopes that he will take care of a problem for her.  However, at first, Lucian turns her down, but not before stealing a kiss – a kiss she can’t forget.  Despite this, she is desperate to make a deal with him and asks him if there is anything he really wants.  Within hours, he discovers there is something.  He believes that he is in love with Frannie, also one of Feagan’s kids, but she turns him down when he proposes, claiming to be uncomfortable around members of the nobility.  Therefore, he strikes up a deal with Catherine.  She will teach his ladylove how to interact with nobility so Frannie will agree to marry him and in return, he will take care of her problem. 

However, as she spends time near him, the attraction between them grows stronger and she sees that he is not the man she thought he was.  Catherine begins to question whether she will be able to live with herself if she has a man killed and she is uneasy about adding to Lucian’s problems.  Will she be able to stick to the deal?  Is there a way to handle her problem other than having the duke killed that will ensure that he never bothers his wife again?

 

IN BED WITH THE DEVIL is a steamy, enticing historical romance.  Anticipation kept me turning pages to see what would happen next as Luke and Catherine risk everything to protect those they love.  In the process, they learn the meaning of true love.  Filled with witty dialogue, sizzling love scenes, a vulnerable, yet strong hero, a feisty, courageous heroine, charming secondary characters, and some surprising plot twists, this is an unforgettable novel.  I highly recommend IN BED WITH THE DEVIL for anyone looking for an enjoyable read.
