Emily Rutherford and her two sisters had grown up in a life of luxury, but when their parents died, a cousin, who was adopted – not even a blood relative – had taken over all that they had known. He had even taken their mother’s jewelry and left them nothing to remember their parents by. He had condescended to purchase them a small cottage to live in. Using their wits, they managed to get by. The one thing that helped Emily get by was her lifelong love for Adrian, who lived nearby. Six years ago, they had come to an understanding, and he had kissed her. Although she had not seen him in two years she was sure he still felt the same. So when she and her sisters were invited to a ball given by his parents, she was overjoyed. But that soon ended when the proposal she was expecting turned out to be an announcement that he intended to marry her best friend Kate. After all the times she had talked to Kate about Adrian and the understanding the two of them had, she felt that they had stabbed her in the back. The last person she had expected to come to her rescue was Francis. Although they had been childhood friends along with Adrian and Kate, he had grown distant and glum. For the past ten years, she has hated him. But now she is beginning to see him in a new light.

Francis Riley, the Earl of Dunhurst, used to be a carefree child, but things had happened in his life to turn his world upside down. He had enjoyed his life with his friends, but after the upheaval in his life, he even resented their joy, so he kept himself distant from them. But seeing how all signs of life seemed to leave Emily when she discovered how Adrian and Kate had betrayed her made him angry. He had found her when she ran away after hearing the announcement and had decided to take her and her sisters to London for a while to help her forget. During this time, he begins to see a new, stronger Emily surfacing – a woman he could love. But with all of his secrets, could he convince her that he was worthy of her love?

An enchanting story, HOW MISS RUTHERFORD GOT HER GROOVE BACK is a passionate, witty historical romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. As children, both Francis and Emily had been happy children, but it took a major upheaval in both of their lives before they discovered their feelings for each other. I loved watching how Francis’ personality blossomed as the story progressed and his pride in seeing Emily overcome her circumstances. Although she had deeply loved both of her parents, she had always felt that she could rely on Adrian and that he would always be there for her. So it was the deceit of her two friends that nearly destroyed her…until Francis showed her a whole new side of life. A touching story, imbued with complex friendships, interesting characters, sizzling sensuality, humor, clever dialogue, secrets, honor and true love, this is a story that you won’t be able to put down. I recommend it. Be sure to get your own copy and discover for yourself just HOW MISS RUTHERFORD GOT HER GROOVE BACK.
