It has been just a few months since her brother Sebastian died in Korea and Lizzy makes a point to visit Beale Air Force Base to dance a few dances with the young soldiers before they ship out to Korea.   On this particular night, she meets a very sad but handsome soldier named Jeremy McMasters.   Jeremy served with Seb until the day he died and has Seb’s last letter to deliver to Lizzy.   She doesn’t want to touch it, and she has a feeling that nothing will be the same again.   She just may be right.

DON’T FENCE ME IN is a sweet and poignant story of those left behind.   It sends a valuable message of the heartache we undergo when we lose someone we love, and the healing power of love.   I was captured by the sadness Jeremy had a hard time getting past and felt my heart break a little.   Lizzy is a warm and caring young woman, a balm to Jeremy’s battered soul.   Her genuine love and compassion comes through loud and clear, making her character come to life on the pages.   Jeremy is the antithesis of Lizzy; he is a sad and lonely young man who feels responsible for his friends’ deaths.   Survivor’s guilt is realistically presented by the author.   The journey to love is a smooth one as Jeremy and Lizzy discover the healing power of their love.   I look forward to reading more by Marianne Arkins; she certainly made an emotional connection through her characters.
