The year is 1779 and Joshua Andrews has been acting lieutenant in his Majesty’s Navy for the last year. He should be happy about his advancement. Unfortunately for Josh, his temporary promotion has brought him to the attention of The Nimrod’s Captain. This is unfortunate because Josh has a terrible secret—he is sexually attracted to other men. If anyone, especially Captain Walker, discovers the truth about Josh, his life will be brought to an early and painful end.

Lt. Peter Kenyon has signed on to The Nimrod for only one voyage. He is on his way to Jamaica. Peter has never encountered a more oppressive atmosphere than the one he finds aboard ship. The Captain is a tyrant and the entire crew is terrified. Peter considers himself a man of honor but he is unsure of what to do. He feels powerless against the Captain’s stranglehold on the crew.

The moment Josh lays eyes on Lt. Kenyon he knows he has found the love of his life. This revelation is both exhilarating and utterly terrifying. Josh knows he must hide his attraction to this man at all costs. Peter unexpectedly becomes a good friend and their close proximity makes life very difficult for Josh. To make matters worse, the situation aboard the Nimrod is about to explode.

CAPTAIN’S SURRENDER by Alex Beecroft is a breathtaking and expertly written historical m/m romance. The author does a wonderful job of recreating the world of 1779 for the reader. I truly felt like I was transported back in time. I found the insight into life during the 18^th century and particularly what it would have been like to be a naval officer during this time to be fascinating. The plot is captivating, with plenty of interesting twists. Josh and Peter are intriguing and complex characters. Both of these men have their faults, but I found myself sympathizing with them and cheering them on. The villain is a compelling character who is truly detestable but in a completely realistic way. I really believed that men like the villain actually existed. This story is more romantic than erotic. The romance between these two men is complicated but also very sensual. The author has written a novel that is an exciting and satisfying blend of romance and adventure. I look forward to reading future stories from Alex Beecroft.
