Lady Miranda Archer had waited all Season for one man in particular to propose to her. She has turned down one proposal after another and was in the midst of the Little Season when she decided she could not wait any longer. Her grandfather was old, tired and wanted to return home to the castle where he could rest. Her sister has been trying to get her to accept Lord Kelton’s proposal. So she finally gave in, but five minutes after she accepted she knew she had made a mistake. Lord Kelton was touted to be the most handsome man in England and according to his actions, he believed the rumors. He could not pass a mirror without looking stopping to look at his own reflection. Her brother, Phineas, is aware of her feelings and is the only member of her family who is not happy about the betrothal.

Gilbert Fielding is desperately in love with Miranda, but he is only an ordinary man and he is aware that the granddaughters of peers did not marry ordinary men. She deserved to marry someone who could provide for her in the way she was accustomed…something he could not do. He knew an announcement would soon be forthcoming about her betrothal to whomever she chose to marry and had decided that he would leave town for his commission in the Army as soon as it was announced. Gilbert could not bear to be in town and watch her celebrate her marriage to another man.

Standing outside of her home, Gilbert sees her standing next to Lord Kelton and when she lifts her hand, he sees the ring. Knowing that she now belongs to someone else, he starts for home, determined to leave the country as soon as possible. He does not want to see his love being escorted about town by someone else. Miranda is desperate to find a way out of her betrothal, but she fears letting down her family.

Knowing that the Earl of Westlake has a ship going out that very evening, Gilbert goes to see him. Arriving at his home, he comes face-to-face with Miranda. She is crying and searching for the sapphire necklace her grandfather gave her as a wedding gift. When Gilbert later spots Lord Kelton with another woman, who is wearing Miranda’s sapphire necklace, he knows he has to let her brother know before he leaves town. But will Lord Kelton’s disreputable behavior be enough to call off the engagement? Even so, will Miranda be able to find a way to get her family to accept the fact that she loves Gilbert and allow her to marry an untitled, ordinary man?

An interesting read, ALL THE PLEASURES OF THE SEASON is an intriguing and entertaining historical romance. I loved this novella! Miranda and Gilbert were well matched in all ways, except for their standing in society. Gilbert loves her but feels that he does not deserve her. After all, he cannot provide for her like those of the ton can. But Miranda loves him and would elope with him if he would accept her, but he will not let her do that to herself. Lord Kelton is truly despicable and, though he is a member of the ton, he definitely did not belong with Miranda. I failed to see what her family saw in him, other than his title. With wit, clever banter, sexual tension and true love, this novella is a joy. This intriguing story will tug at your heart! Do not bypass this one!
