Chelsea Bellamy’s brother, Robert, had set out to buy a commission in the army after being sent home in disgrace from the university.  With their parents dead, they had little money.  Chelsea had scrimped to keep him in school.   Furious that he was going off to war, she had refused to participate in his send-off.  He left without a word from her and now she regretted it, especially once she received a ransom note.  Robert had been kidnapped.  The kidnappers wanted five thousand pounds.  That was a fortune to her. They had already sold off the silver and anything that would bring in money to survive on.  Their servant Jack had, at one time, been a highwayman.  With only one good eye, he was full of tales about his exploits as One Eyed Jack during her growing years.

Anthony Grenville, Seventh Viscount Montrose, was about to be married. He had fought for two years in Spain and came home with a stiff injured right leg.  It has been sixteen months since his wounds ensured his passage home, where he learned of his Uncle Ignatius’s death. Overnight, Anthony, as his heir, became wealthy.  With his riches and free of his father, he had sought out pleasures, but nothing pleased him.  He was left with the numbing emptiness of his days and the demons that haunted his nights.  After one of his many mistresses threatened to kill herself, he knew it was time to settle down and get married.  Lady Phoebe had been the star of the Season and Anthony waltzed his way into her heart, to his later regret.  The attraction he felt for her died as soon as she agreed to marry him.  Life had become dull and he was bored.  That is, until the carriage in which he, his fiancée and her mother were riding was waylaid and robbed.

Knowing no other way to raise the money, Chelsea thought back on all the tales her servant Jack had told over the years of his exploits as a highwayman.  So, despite his protests, she decided to resurrect One Eyed Jack.

As Anthony stood watching the robbery, he noted several things about One Eyed Jack, which led him to slowly realize that Jack was a Jacqueline, but Anthony underestimated her.  Having to gather the unhitched horses, he was kept from pursuit, allowing One Eyed Jack and her comrade to make their getaway.  What he did not realize was that Chelsea was afraid of committing murder, so she had just robbed him with an unloaded weapon.  But he was also beginning to feel that life was exciting again.

Catching her breaking into his home, he confronted her and finally discovered why she had turned to a life of crime.  A kiss between them proved that the passion was mutual.  Anthony came up with a plan to rescue her brother, but he also had plans for her.  Desiring her greatly, he tried to talk her into becoming his mistress, but she refused, though thoughts of it enflamed her.  However, she did accept his help.  Anthony could not contemplate a future without her, but he also could not cause a scandal by calling off the wedding.  Can he successfully rescue her brother and still keep her in his life?

A ROGUE’S PLEASURE is an exciting, sizzling hot historical romance, which will have the reader feverishly turning pages to see what happens next.  Though they have a mutual need for each other, they also both have honor.  Anthony cannot cause a scandal and let his fiancée down by calling off the wedding and Chelsea cannot hurt his fiancée by keeping up a relationship with him after his marriage.  Since he is bound to another, she is determined to stay away from him.  Though she needs his aid to rescue her brother, she knows ultimately it is up to her.  Enhanced with an intriguing plot, witty repartee, realistically complex characters and steamy love scenes, this story is brought to life right before your eyes by the wonderful writing and imagination of author Hope Tarr.  Although this is the first story I have read by this talented author, it will not be the last.
