Miss Emma Grenville is the headmistress for Miss Grenville’s Academy, a reputable girls’ school in Hampshire. She loves her job and her students but unfortunately, there is a problem. She has a new landlord, the Duke of Wycliffe, Greydon Brakenridge. He is insisting on raising the rent on the school because the land he inherited badly needs the funds. Emma just cannot have that. So instead, a wager is set. If Emma wins, the rent stays the same. But in the meantime, Emma has to deal with His Grace as a temporary instructor at the Academy. Emma may be an intelligent woman in the world of academia, but when it comes to rakes like Grey, she is a mere amateur. Will this wager only cause heartbreak for Emma?

A MATTER OF SCANDAL is one of Suzanne Enoch’s earliest historical romances, first published in 2001. It is filled with humorous moments, as Grey tackles lessons with his young female students. From dancing to discussing what exactly makes a man a rake, there are laughs to be found in this story. There is also a passionate romance that plays out on the pages as Grey and Emma match wits. Though they start out at opposing ends when it comes to the Academy, they are quickly working together to make the Academy stronger, despite Grey’s initial resistance. There are of course still some conflicts to work through, including answering to angry aristocratic parents who are wondering why a male is teaching their innocent girls. A MATTER OF SCANDAL is a light and frothy read that is purely enjoyable. This may be one of Suzanne Enoch’s earlier books but it by no means lacks anything. A MATTER OF SCANDAL is sinfully delicious!
