Lord Jarret does not exactly have the best reputation, while on the surface, Annabel's reputation is sterling. However, both of these characters have some deeper issues that come to the surface as they match wits and decide if Plumtree Brewery will come to the aid of the Lake family. Suddenly a simple business partnership becomes much more convoluted and complex. The charm and depth in this story comes from watching Jarret finally understand that to be even remotely happy, he has to expose part of his heart, something he has hidden since his parents' terrible deaths. As for Annabel, she has exposed her heart and lost in a very major way so she is very reluctant to take a chance on Jarret. He is a gambler but can he convince Annabel that taking a risk on him will pay off in spades?
