Diane Benchley nearly lost everything after her husband gambled away their money. She is not going to play the victim for another man ever again which is why she is blackmailing Oliver into helping her set up her new club, The Tantalus Club. Oliver is a renowned gambler, winning money easily. Unfortunately, he does have one indiscretion in his past that Diane is able to play on and play on it she will. She needs his vast knowledge to make her club a success. Diane and Oliver have a past however, a past that includes several nights in the bedroom. Will they be able to work so closely together without reigniting the flames from their past?
Diane and Oliver have chemistry on every single page. From the very beginning of this book, their conversation sparks, even when it is at times most antagonistic. That is part of their charm, however, because it is easy to see the sexual attraction lurking under the barbed dialogue. Suzanne Enoch is always willing to tackle characters who go against the grain and there is no doubt Diane is one of those women. She wants a solid living for herself. Yes, there is definitely some vengeance in her initial plans but she quickly comes to see that her idea, once off and running, is being molded and changed by the women, and the men, she comes into contact with. She is not a hard-hearted woman, much as it may seem at first. Oliver is no slouch in the romance department either and he helps Diane build her trust in relationships once again.
A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO RAKES is a very well told tale! Diane is not your average romance heroine and that makes this book something truly special to read.
