Leelee Satterfield, along with her two young daughters, is heading back to Leelee’s hometown of Memphis. After her divorce, she cannot handle one more day in cold and muddy Vermont. While she is sad to be leaving behind the inn she made into a successful business, and the man who helped her succeed, she knows she needs to be back in the bosom of her friends.

Unfortunately, life in Memphis, while still far preferable to the cold of Vermont, has its own hardships. Leelee has to get a job. She has to get her daughters to school. She has to deal with a rental that is mediocre at best. Fortunately, Leelee is an optimistic woman who will do what she can to succeed, even if it means dealing with a supervisor who is far from perfect, a neighbor who means well but could not fix a bathroom if his life depended on it, and the gossip from old classmates who are wondering what happened to her marriage. Will this southern woman find the strength to carry on?
YANKEE DOODLE DIXIE is a sweet and genuine book. Leelee is a caring soul who is struggling but she is not letting those struggles wear her down. She will persevere and find joy in the small things: her daughters, her long time family friend, Kissie, and her best girlfriends from her youth. This story is populated with big personalities that fill up the pages, from the jockeys at Leelee’s radio station to her friends themselves—their southern charm gives this story a truly likeable appeal. While the romance aspect is minimal, I was so caught up in Leelee’s story that I did not even mind. She just leaps off the pages. Lisa Patton has a winner with YANKEE DOODLE DIXIE. It is a sure-to-please story, no matter if you are a Yankee yourself.
