Leigh McAllister is finally done with veterinary school and is ready to open her own practice. She has moved back to Wolf Creek, Wyoming, and leased the vet clinic from a local retiring veterinarian. Now she just hopes she can maintain a successful business. Unfortunately, the situation seems to be getting harder rather than easier, when vandals strike and hurt the practice. Added to the stress about her dream job is the fact that Cole Daniels is also back in Wolf Creek. When Leigh was younger, her testimony sent his father to jail. Is Cole out for revenge?

Cole just wants to get to the bottom of the murder that sent his father to prison, the murder that Cole's father did not commit. Cole is sure that someone knows who the true murderer is, they just are not talking. Cole thinks Leigh may have information to help him. And, he is also attracted to her, as much as he may not want to be. He may have more reason than most to want to get revenge on the McAllister family, but when he realizes the danger Leigh is in, all he wants to do is help. But if Cole is a good guy, then who is trying to hurt Leigh?

Wolf Creek is in one sense, a typical small town. But there is also a dark side that has been hidden for a long time. Leigh's and Cole's arrival have triggered that dark side. Roxanne Rustand does a good job of countering the darkness with light and hope. Leigh has a deep faith and that guides her through the worst of the destruction against her dreams. Of course, she did what she could to rectify the situation too, helping Cole, and making sure that the community sees her as a responsible vet. Their match is met with many obstacles, including an old murder, but there is a lingering attraction between them from their teenage years. The focus on family, on building and strengthening relationships, is the strongest part of this story. Cole and Leigh will win your heart as they explore the past, their present, and hopefully, their future.
