Cordelia “Posey” Osterhagen has a great family, a successful business, and a brother she loves, along with two friends who keep her sane. Unfortunately, she still is not married and that is something she hopes to accomplish, oh sometime within the decade. But it is definitely not as easy to find Mr. Right as it is to run her architectural salvaging company or pacify her parents by eating everything in sight from their German restaurant. Then Liam Murphy steps back into her life. He was a typical “bad boy” back in high school and Posey had a mad crush on him. Unfortunately, he crushed her dreams inadvertently at prom, and that was that. Posey is not going to fall into the trap of crushing on him again. Or so she tells herself.

Liam is back in New Hampshire to raise his teenage daughter, Nicole, closer to her grandparents. After the death of his wife, Emma, he wanted to make sure his daughter was raised in a wholesome and safe environment. Liam thinks he has no idea what he is doing as a dad. He has no intention of falling in love, ever again. He wants to focus on Nicole but somehow he cannot stay away from Posey, one of the most sincere and kind women he has ever met. Sure, she is definitely a bit…quirky, but it is obvious she would do anything for her loved ones. But when push comes to shove, can Liam truly move on from his past and settle into a future with Posey?

Like many of her previous books, there is a cute pet, a wild cast of oh-so-quirky secondary characters, a heroine looking to get married, and a hero who has anything but marriage on his mind. Fortunately, all these ingredients add up to success for Kristan Higgins again. UNTIL THERE WAS YOU is just plain old fun to read. Liam has some very funny quirks of his own, a new characteristic I have not seen used in many of Higgins’ male protagonists. He personifies the worried but proud dad and I had to laugh at how often he point blank told Nicole’s crush that he knew exactly what he was thinking. As for Posey, she is just a warm and genuine character. She is not false or mean. She is a woman who cares for her family and friends and it shows in her actions. She is good-natured, can handle being teased, and only wants what her parents have: a love that will last forever. There is no way you cannot not root for Posey to find true love.

UNTIL THERE WAS YOU is a fabulous contemporary romance. Kristan Higgins is a truly talented voice in the romance community and I always look forward to her stories. There is something special about this author!
