Mick Riley is the star quarterback for the San Francisco Sabers. He is talented both on and off the field, has wealth, great looks, and more women than any one man could handle. But when he meets event planner Tara Lincoln, he knows that the superficial women he is used to will no longer cut it. A night spent with Tara confirms that and Mick wants more. He plays to win and wants Tara.

She has hesitations however. Tara’s business is going well but she knows she still has her work cut out for her. Then there is her fourteen, almost fifteen-year-old son, Nathan. Few men are willing to put up with a woman with so much baggage, let alone a famous pro-athlete. But Mick is not like most men and though he is not quite sure what the future holds for him and Tara, he knows he wants to give them a chance.

THE PERFECT PLAY is near perfection! Mick and Tara have an incendiary chemistry that leaps of the pages from the moment they meet until the very end. These two were destined for each other and I believed in that wholeheartedly, even though they came from very different worlds and backgrounds. However, both pride themselves on hard work, making tough choices, and doing the best for their loved ones. These similarities were a wonderful contrast to some of Tara’s pessimism regarding a future with Mick. Additionally, Jaci Burton builds up the secondary characters, giving them depth and different facets that compliment the main storyline.

But truly, the heart of the story is Mick and Tara and what they do to make their relationship work, both the good and the bad. Yes, there were some bad decisions on both of their parts. THE PERFECT PLAY is almost too good to be true in a fairytale romance sense but I was prepared to let reality slip away and enjoy this story of a working class woman being wooed by a pro-football player. THE PERFECT PLAY tempts and seduces with its great characters and sexy as sin romance.
