When her latest guy dumps her literally climbing out of bed and getting dressed, Quinn Gallagher is left wondering what in the world is wrong with her. She's never been with a man who cares more for her than he does for his own needs and desires. Giving all the time--and reaping scant rewards--is soul-draining. After a good cry and time off for Ben and Jerry's and wine, she confesses what happened to her best friend, Marla. While sympathetic, all Marla can do is remind Quinn that she deserves better. If Quinn really believed that, her life would be a lot easier.

That evening, she joins her next door neighbor in their nightly ritual. Quinn sits on her side of the backyard fence and drinks wine, Frenchie sits on her side drinking whiskey, and they talk. Frenchie doesn't care for Marla, but she agrees with Marla's assessment. Quinn does deserve better--and Frenchie's in a position to do something about it. She was once a star on the burlesque stage and at seventy-five is still a woman who knows how to attract a man.

Frenchie has a plan. Make Quinn recognize her specialness. It starts, she says with believing you're someone else, someone you'd like to be. Who would you like to be, she asks Quinn. Thus, The Mighty Quinn is born. The Mighty Quinn wants to write, not work in an office. She doesn't take bad treatment from men, she stands up for herself and makes men crawl with desire for her. The Mighty Quinn is…well, mighty.

Frenchie takes Quinn shopping for everything from lingerie to work clothes, showing her how to emphasize her positives. Then she tries to teach Quinn the finer points of walking in stilettos and flirting like a champ. Shimmying while strutting across the floor is a miss. Quinn doesn't take to Seduction 101 as easily as she did shopping, but maybe that's because she doesn't really have time to practice. The man of her dreams walks right into her life just as she's getting started. What dumb luck.

The results of Quinn's trying to catch Keaton with her half-learned burlesque knowledge are funny and touching--especially because the guy is head over heels with practically no effort on her part. Now Quinn is faced with getting what she always wanted. A truly good man is in love with her. The trouble is, she's no longer the old Quinn and not yet The Mighty Quinn. She isn't sure who she is. How can she find happiness with Keaton or anyone without finding herself first?

THE MIGHTY QUINN is a great read I highly recommend. Quinn is funny and real and so sympathetic. Marla is a fine supporting character as a good friend without an ounce of bitchiness. Frenchie is priceless, however, and steals the stage, as it were. Keaton is so sweet we should all have one before we die, just to give us a taste of heaven to come. Thanks, Ms. Marsden, for a fun romance with a message. Dream of who you want to be and believe that's who you are. Then know that love is the only great adventure. Good advice to make all of us Mighty.
