Viola had heard that he had gotten out of prison on an early release. She had testified against him, although she had at one time been attracted to him. But he had proved to be nothing but an animal. The home she owned, Dean House, has been in the family for over a hundred years. But all it took was one night, waking up to unusual sounds and the fear that it was that evil man who plagued her, for her to put the house on the market. She had worked as a real estate agent before, so she was aware that it was not a good time to sell the house. But she wanted to get away before he could get his hands on her. So she went to a small town where she found a job and an apartment right away and adopted the name Olivia. Filling in temporarily as a secretary, while the regular secretary was on maternity leave, she met a private detective, Jed, who was also her boss’ brother-in-law.
Jed could not deny his interest in Olivia, but he knew she was hiding something. As a private detective, he had his ways of finding out what he wanted to know. But he thought that would be underhanded. He would find out when she wanted him to know. Finally, he could not help looking up Olivia online, but he had found nothing. Settling down to check out the files of his newest clients, he saw a picture that looked just like Olivia, but the girl in the picture was blonde and Olivia was a redhead. Putting it down to coincidence since she was constantly on his mind, he decided to see if she was willing to take their relationship past friendship.
Olivia had not wanted to get involved with a man again, but she had sensual needs too and Jed seemed like such a decent guy. So she agreed to a weekend away with him. But after arriving, the flowers that were delivered to her reminded her of Vic. When the weekend does not work out as she intended, she is at a low point in her life. Breaking down, she confides her true identity as well as her past to Jed. Taking his advice, she moves in with him, but things remain platonic. She even agrees to attend his family gathering for the Christmas holidays. But when an impromptu party at his brother’s home produces Vic as one of the guests, she is horrified. Can she trust Jed whenhis family seems to be involved with the man she has been running from?
A thrilling tale, THE LONGEST PLEASURE, an exciting romantic suspense by gifted author Margaret Blake, will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat and eagerly turning the pages to see what happens next. I read this story in one sitting, unable to put it down. At first, Viola has trouble trusting Jed, afraid that he may turn out to be like Vic. After all, Vic had tenderly wooed her too in the beginning of their relationship. But before long, Viola sees that Jed is nothing like Vic and the sparks begin to fly. The chemistry between the two is combustible, and not even well meaning family meddlers can keep them apart. Brimming with emotions, danger, murder, deceit, steamy situations and romance, this is a story that you will still be thinking about long after the last page is read. I highly recommend THE LONGEST PLEASURE and look forward to reading more of Ms. Blake’s works. Do not miss it!
