Michelle Snow is content with her life. She does want to meet “The One” but really has not done much to find him. When a friend compels her into joining match.com, Michelle reluctantly does. After scanning way too many profiles, she stops at DieselCat. She loves his smile and sends him a message. It is like fate because “DieselCat” just happens to like her smile too.

Todd Bracken has not had much luck on match.com but then it all changes for the better when he meets Michelle. They go from email flirting to a first meeting that is as wonderful as could be hoped. Perhaps these two have struck gold in the game of love.

I was not sure what to expect from a reality-based romance but the title called to me. I love cupcakes and indeed, this is a book well worth reading, title or no. Michelle and Todd have a really great connection from the moment they meet. Their dialogue is never artificial or shallow, from the very get-go they just have a wonderful spark and knowing that this is a real life couple, well it just makes the story that much more special. Add in some career woes (it is where the cupcakes come in) and the story has a true realism to it that is not hampered by excessive plotlines. Alison Kent brings an exciting and romantic writing style to this love story but somehow, what makes it so wonderful is the fact these are real people who fell in love, complications and all. THE ICING ON THE CAKE does not need a Cinderella style love story filled with dragons, a white knight and deathly heroics. All it needs is two characters who love each other. What makes it special is that it is real life and in real life, great love stories happen.
