Real Estate business owner Hannah Murphy isn’t interested in acquiring a husband at this stage of her life.  As a single mom, she’s been there, done that, and got the budding juvenile delinquent to show for her efforts.  She’s now concentrating on acquiring enough funds to send her son to military academy where he’ll learn discipline.  The last thing she needs is the town’s Ladies Prayer Circle to pray for a husband for her – and the sudden appearance of a Harley riding stranger is enough to bring her to the conclusion that her life is about to change in ways she hadn’t anticipated.

Logan Kimbrough’s looking to building a life in Ophelia.  He’s quit his job in the high powered financial world and decided to open his own motorcycle shop in the one town he’s always considered home – even though he hasn’t been back there since he was just a baby.  He’s found the perfect building for his newest venture only Hannah doesn’t seem too keen on renting to him.  She obviously has something against motorcycle riders, which only makes her more interesting in his opinion.

Hannah loves everything about motorcycles - the sight, the smell, the purr of the engine –ohhh, and the vibration of the machinery as you sit astride it… deliciously wicked.  Yes, she has a strong cycle fetish, which is exactly why she can’t get involved with Logan.  Her ex-husband was a prime example of exactly why it’s unwise to get involved with a man who rides a motorcycle.  They’re immature, selfish, and brutal.

Any hope she has of avoiding involvement with Logan seems to be futile though as they’re thrown together time and time again.  The Ladies Prayer Circle and Miss Daisy in particular are dead set on bringing Hannah and Logan together as a couple.  Hannah’s feelings for Logan are best pushed to the back of her mind, or so she believes but once Hannah’s son Tim gets himself into trouble by painting graffiti on the side of Logan’s building she realizes that what Tim truly needs is a ‘father figure’ – one who isn’t simply an overgrown child riding a Harley.

Taylor Manning’s THE GROOM WORE LEATHER is a spirited read full of high jinks, loveable characters, plenty of sexual tension and a wondrous acceptance of everything that makes life worth living.  Logan and Hannah fit together perfectly.  Their love of motorcycles and dedication to the community are just the beginning of the things they have in common.  What truly cemented them as a couple for me though was when Logan takes Tim in hand and treats him like a father should have been doing all along – and Hannah realizes that Logan is exactly what they both need in their lives.  I got a real kick out of the Ladies Prayer Circle and since Hannah has single friends still, we can only hope that we’ll get to revisit this community and its beloved characters in another Ophelia based book very soon.
