A few weeks later, Becca has still not found an appropriate position. Used to city life, she refuses to even consider the one available position in Oklahoma. But her money is running out and she is beginning to despair of finding a position. Then Becca is blindsided when she receives a call from the Oklahoma college, offering her an associate professor’s position, a higher position than she had ever attained at Vassar. It does not take her long to realize how they knew about her.Her sister Emma, unbeknownst to her, has sent in her resume. The offer is too good to pass up; still Becca can’t imagine leaving the city for cowboys and rodeos. Thinking to punish her sister, Becca forces Emma to fly to Oklahoma with her. However, Emma is ecstatic at the news, especially when she discovers there is to be a rodeo there on the evening of their arrival.
Tucker Jenkins is a part-time bull rider, having taken the state championship and coming in second in roping. In addition, he is a Staff Sergeant in the military, as well as a teacher with the ROTC at OSU, making him a member of their faculty. After being stung by an ex-wife, who had cheated on him while he was deployed overseas, serving his country, he is not ready for another committed relationship. Once his marriage was over, he had indulged in a series of meaningless one night stands, but he had not found any joy in the hook-ups. It has been a while since he has been with a woman now, even just for the night.
Seeing the two blondes enter the fairgrounds of the rodeo, Tucker is captivated by Becca immediately. So he and his best friend Jace approach them and offer to provide them with closer seats. Emma was overjoyed at the prospect and practically threw Becca into Tucker’s arms. But Becca could not deny her attraction to Tucker and as things grew heated between them, the two ended up spending the night together. The next morning, Becca had to leave early to get ready for her interview and Tucker could not believe how hard it was to let her go. But they said their goodbyes and did not even exchange phone numbers.
For the next couple weeks, Tucker could not get her out of his mind. So he is shocked when he attends a mixer welcoming a new professor, only to discover that the event is being held for Becca. During their night together she had not even mentioned an interview or the possibility of her working at the college. Evidently, she was only interested in one night with him, or so he believes. But Becca is equally shocked to see Tucker at the mixer, especially since he is in uniform. She thought he rode bulls for a living. Still the attraction between them is stronger than ever, despite the lack of communication between them. But there is another problem to keep them apart, the no fraternization clause in their contracts with the college. How long can they keep their secret meetings private, especially when they are caught kissing on camera?
An unforgettable tale, ONE NIGHT WITH A COWBOY, the first book in author Cat Johnson’s OKLAHOMA NIGHTS series, is a fast-paced, sensual contemporary romance that will stay with you long after the book is finished. I could not put it down and by the end of the book I had lost my heart to Tucker. The only problem with this book was that it had to end. Brimming with humor, miscommunication, sensual Oklahoma nights, rodeos, the military, Afghanistan, college life, secret meetings, romance and love, this story is a satisfying read that is sure to win Ms. Johnson many fans. This is one story that I am eager to read again. A definite keeper! Although this is the first of Ms. Johnson’s books that I have read, it definitely will not be the last. At times, the suspense-filled and emotion-packed moments will have you eagerly turning the pages to see how things turn out. As I anxiously await the chance to read Emma’s story, TWO TIMES AS HOT, due out in September 2013, be sure to check out ONE NIGHT WITH A COWBOY. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.
