In Donna Kauffman’s LET ME IN, Tate Winslow awakens in the middle of the night to a noise on her doorstep.  Three years removed from her life as a secret agent has not been enough time to break the security habits acquired in years as an agent.  Tate is surprised to find Derek Cole, her former boss, bound and beaten on her doorstep.

Through a drugged haze, Derek manages to inform Tate that he has been contacted by Tate’s old partner, who was supposedly killed in the same torture camp where Tate was held.  Derek’s suspicions about that former agent have led him to Tate for answers.  Before he could make contact with her though, he was tranquilized and tortured himself for information.  The hallucinogenic drugs administered to him during the interrogation prevent him from remembering most of it, but he does know that Tate is in danger.  They have a limited amount of time to discover the truth before the enemy arrives at Tate’s door.

As Derek and Tate begin to work through the clues to discover Derek’s attacker, they awaken a desire for each other that was always previously stifled.  Years ago, while working together, they shared a silent attraction for each other.  Now, years later, that attraction has only grown.  As the threat surrounding them grows, they can’t deny the heat building between them.  They are fearful that their newly acknowledged passion will not live through the danger they must face to solve the mystery of the newly returned agent and her surprising revelations about the agency for which they both risked their lives.

Donna Kauffman’s LET ME IN is thrilling from beginning to end.  I read it in one sitting.  This is one of the few action/suspense novels where I haven’t been able to guess the ending, and I attribute that to Kauffman’s creative and dramatic story telling.  Tate and Derek are great together.  I love the fact that Kauffman’s characters are both sexy and intelligent.  It makes for great reading.  I have always enjoyed Kauffman’s books, and LET ME IN is no exception.  It might be her best book yet.  Run out and grab a copy, you won’t be disappointed.
